KOO BLAUDRUCK X MAGHANOY WILSON X WERKDORF
THE GENESIS. In the Spring of 2019, we once again welcomed Joseph Koo to our store and spoke about a second collaboration – the first being a waistcoat in celebration of our 15th anniversary. We envisioned a versatile product, unisex and durable, showing off local, handcrafted work at its best. Soon, the idea of „The Shopper“ bag was born. The first step: which fabric to use – deciding on a heavy cotton canvas from Europe. After the indigo dyeing process, Simon was already hard at work on a sample. Meanwhile, Flo prepared the necessary leather and Joseph supplied his famous „Blaudruck“ for the bag's interior – each bag comes in a different one. Finally, it all came together, with everyone involved more than pleased with the result. Enjoy your new companion!
THE FABRIC. Joseph Koó is one of the last dyers in Europe to dye fabrics blue according to ancient tradition. For three generations, the small operation of Joseph Koó has been located in Burgenland Steinberg. The Koós are now the only ones who still use this traditional method in double printing - with unique patterns on both the front and back. With about 20 kilograms of indigo, an estimated 1,500 meters of fabric is printed every year. Incidentally, Koó's workshop still looks the same as it did in 1921, which was built by Joseph's grandfather.
THE SEWING. Every bag is entirely hand built by Simon Peter Maghanoy Wilson, in Graz, Austria. Their workshop, situated in an aged, refurbished basement (with the original 50's painted walls) and located in a 100+ year old building using techniques of yore solely on an old Swiss Bernina sewing machine. Simon sources as many local, high quality materials as possible to create a product and brand that is far more focused on guaranteeing quality than being purely profit driven. He refuses to cut corners, and believes the wonderful results are something unique, hoping our bags and gear will be part of your journey for many, many years to come.
THE LEATHER. Werkdorf is a small company focused on creating fine leather goods that combine timeless design with functionality. All products are made completely by hand; every cut, every stitch, every crease...meticulously crafted. Located in Graz, Austria, the company is run by two self taught leather artisans, showing responsibility and care for every product leaving their workshop. Werkdorf uses 100% vegetable tanned leather from a small tannery called Tärnsjo, located in Sweden and founded in 1873. Their goal is to make leather goods that not only stay with you for a lifetime, but provide joy in using it over and over again.
Even the packaging is proudly manufactured in Graz alongside the nicely designed and offset printed folder.
